I've heard of some horror stories about Americans expatriating, you really have to be careful where you go and what you plan to do, as well research the laws and culture of those places you expat to. In South America, for example, there is a lot less regulation when it comes to service providers. Now of-course most would think this de-regulation is good, less government right? However there is notorious abuse of fraudulent services. For example, if you are not careful who you are doing business with there are lots of scams and con-artists. Let's say you want new roofing done and you sign a contract for it, and you pay for that service, later finding out all they did was sloppily patch up some of the more vulnerable areas to reduce leaks.... but the roofing as a whole was not properly fixed, yet because you signed a contract you get stuck with the bill and your roofing remains in pretty a shitty condition. Apply this to just about any kind of service and you'll get to see the big problem. And there are plenty of con-artists who will happily take advantage of wealthier gringo schmucks..... I'll give you another perfect example, New Zealand was once considered the safest most freedom-minded place to move for American expats. It's not anymore, at all. New Zealand today has a massive nanny police state, far worse than most other countries. Vax mandates, lockdowns, involuntary quarantines, gun grabs, mass censorship & 'hate speech' laws, etc. Little did American expats think 10 years ago anything like this would happen over there, but it did, and is far worse than anything seen in American cities or Europe in general.
