A peacock, called Boris, was stolen, killed and eaten by public workers in a small town on the Hungary. The bird was the pride of a family recently moved to the settlement, and became a local curiosity, an attraction which people visited (even school classes and such) took photos of and with. Could have lived for 50 years, but only got 5.
The perpetrator confessed the crime and got 1 year prison, suspended for 2 years, for theft and animal torture.
The theoretical value of the bird might even equaled with 100 kilos of beef.
