Around Mary, in recessed chapels, the altars of Catholic countries can be found. Among them Hungary's, called Patrona Hungariae.
Above the altar in the center sits Mary and in her lap the baby Jesus, ornated with the Hungarian royal insignias: Mary holds the scepter, Jesus the globus cruciger, above them angels hold the Holy Crown.
On their sides Hungarian saints from the House of Árpád got places. To their right Saint Stephen and Saint Emeric, to their left Saint Ladislaus and Saint Elizabeth.
Below them, on the white marble altar in copper relief four saints from the early Christianity. Saint Stephen (the first martyr), Saint Simon, Saint Thaddeus (patron of desperate cases and lost causes), and Saint Cleophas.
The altar was consecrated in 1931.
The mosaic of the vault was made by Muzsinszki Nagy Endre. His work was the original cover of the altar in the Basilica of Agony (Church of All Nations in the Garden of Gethsemane) from 1932 to 1949 when they changed it out with the work of an Italian artist.
