Sawyer founded Veterans For Child Rescue (V4CR), a non profit organization in April 2017 to help raise awareness of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking and create a non-permissive environment for child exploitation in the United States. Through his efforts with V4CR Sawyer began production on a documentary feature-length film to highlight the challenges of NGOs and of law enforcement in the fight to end the exploitation of children.

In August 2018, Sawyer tweeted that the Contraland documentary would be released on Netflix November 9. On November 10, V4CR issued a statement saying that the documentary producer had resigned after taking $613,000 and was keeping all the footage, equipment and merchandise.
