Already done in 1930s USSR. Thousands went to work in the Ford plant and elsewhere:
"Lost their passports upon arrival
Then it was time for sole survival."
Unfortunately, there were no tv cameras to record the coutcome, just maybe 7 books from survivors from the  gulag. 

On second thought, kind of a downer show. What's your next idea??? How about this: 
A reality show where hapless high school students are sent to an American college that closely resembles 1930s USSR and left to survive a few months.

Cheap and easy to produce--we already have hundreds of colleges available and everyone's got cell phones.
