Correction:
gate to the 8th plane is in the bottom of a pit, the 9th is in the roof.

I may have messed up this a bit more, and it's possible it doesn't look exactly like this to everyone, I wrote this down after exploring the lot of it but I think I got it right, at least you know what to look for.
