I worship the concept that in order to have economic development and thus technological developments, you need capitalism.
The soy meme is making fun of middle class liberals that treat science like a religion without understanding it, and treat the word of scientists as the word of God. Typically pro-vaxx because scientists told them so.
Or you could do like Europe and take the anti-market approach and let your economy go into freefall while having to pay 5 euros for a plastic straw to "save the environment" while the Americucks are testing reusable rockets, AI, fusion energy and perhaps even the possibility of terraforming Mars. I will agree however that capitalism doesn't tend to do a good job of dealing with such issues as pollution but seeing where things are headed and the historical trends I'd say I'm fairly optimistic for the future and taking the gut reaction of panicking about present issues might not be so wise, for example the carbon tax in some European countries is how they chose to deal with car pollution, in the US there was no carbon tax and instead you had Tesla motors which created an EV revolution that caused a sort of widespread adoption of EVs, I think time and time again capitalism seems to show it's quite a lot more effective than you'd really like to think, and seems like most western countries are now moving in that direction.
