speaking of your struggles two mates of mine consoomed the new favero pedals at release and got massive squeaking after a mere 300-500 km and to fix that they have to keep regreasing a part of the axle but it doesn't last very long. According to some forum this is a common issue. The mtb version doesn't seem to have that problem
