There's a very nice straight flat road 15km from where I live and it's nice to do the vo2max efforts there. Can do anything from 3min to 10min there, and usually during an interval I get passed by at most one car. If you do the efforts to a headwind you won't go much over 40km/h so not too high speeds either.
I've slept like shit for the past few nights and felt like shit today,  could only do 470W for the first two 3min intervals and then the next two 4min efforts were at just over 435W, about 20W less than usual. And even if it was flat I think I prefer the trainer for these, just feels easier to stay within the intended power. The cooling effect was nice though, average temp was something like 12 degrees and felt really pleasant compared to the Finnish boiler room experience.
