US UCI events have almost always been large single entities with political connections sponsoring a race for a few years and then deciding it isnt worth it anymore. obviously this is the case for most non-EU WT races [UAE, TDU, China] but the only truly organic US UCI race is tour of the gila, which only can exist because it manages to be the most prestigious stage race on the continent despite attracting UAE-tour level crowds in the middle of the desert. The big road races that do pop up are usually limited by their sponsors wanting them in extremely restrictive areas [Maryland Cycling Classic in fucking baltimore, Del Grosso's GP NYC in north jersey]. I desperately wish for a sustainable cycling race in the US which isn't reliant on one megasponsor, but it would require a more robust cycling scene audience and unwavering political support from the local area, neither of which currently exists.
