There are only 2 options really 1. You get used to it and it doesn't hurt (well it still hurts, but it's more of a being tired than actual pain) 2. It's not enough of volume/strain and you're just practically doing cardio.
Of course it's 2 in your case but even cardio is not bad really, you will not really grow in strength but even maintaining strength or very slow growth is better than doing shitall when it comes to workouts.
