It's called being a "shock jock". It's nothing new. 

It used to be hip hop singers and people like eminem and that one producer he had pulling the strings would do that. But now they're going into RW circles it seems.

Before that, it was people like Voltaire acting that way. With him mostly doing it to defame and lower the status of the French Nobility during King Louis' monarchy. Or Karl Marx spouting nonsense. Depends on the person and situation and current social climate.
