TL/DR summary.

Europe is in a massive sovereign debt crisis due to economic insolvency and very stupid failed policies. Pensions, banks and bonds are in deep financial trouble in Europe.

Europe needs a scapegoat for the utter failed policy hell they threw European citizens into.

Ah! Blame Russia. Europe decided to side with US neo-cons to wage a war against Russia, if they win they can steal and usurp all the land and resources, breaking Russia up into multiple failed vassal states. Europe would become rich once again.

Big problem: that would cause nuclear World War III if the US got involved, and a majority of Americans do not want that or have anything to do with a war against Russia. Europe by itself cannot possibly defeat Russia on its own, thus a lost war is predictable.

US now pressured between waging nuclear world war to save Europe or just backing out, walking away and leaving NATO while Europe self-destructs.
