> Windows 11 update KB5074109 is breaking systems — Microsoft says uninstall it ASAP. Here's how.

I had it paused, chatgpt.com to avoid installing it:
✅ The fix: remove the cached update, then hide it properly
Step 1: Delete the downloaded update files

This forces Windows to “forget” KB5074109 so it becomes hide-able again.

Pause updates (keep them paused for now)

Open Command Prompt (Admin)

Run these commands one by one:

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits

Open File Explorer and go to:

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

Delete everything inside that folder
(not the folder itself — just the contents)

Go back to Command Prompt and run:

net start wuauserv
net start bits

Reboot

Step 2: Hide the correct KB

Now run wushowhide.diagcab again:

Click Hide updates

You should now see KB5074109 listed

Check it → Finish

✔️ This time, it’s actually blocked.

✅ Step 3: Prevent re-download shenanigans (Pro-only)

You already have Pro, so lock it down a bit:

Group Policy hardening

Win + R → gpedit.msc

Go to:
Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates →
Windows Components → Windows Update

Set these:

Configure Automatic Updates

Enabled

Option 2 – Notify for download and auto install

Get updates for other Microsoft products

Disabled (optional, but reduces noise)

Then:

gpupdate /force

Reboot once.
