> It’s just there to give a bit of a different look to the area. It actually is at the Forest Of Mystery, where you lose sight of the purple water for a bit.

> the Vulcan/Tubal Cain volcano marks the "Mystery" forest

The monkey that leads you might be a "Journey to the West " reference.

Sun Wukong (voiced by James Sie) appears as a character in the Amazon series Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny, based on the popular Dreamworks franchise. However, his enemy Baigujing (translated into White Bone Demon) also makes an appearance as the main antagonist of the second half of Season 1, manipulating the Emperor's adoptive daughter into murdering him and creating an army of animated Terracotta soldiers, and later constructing a giant automaton to take over as her new body.

The boss of Yellow Desert Zone in Sonic Blast is a reference to Sun Wukong.
League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, Dota 2, Paragon, and Smite all have a playable character based on the Monkey King.[37][38]
Dota 2 also has an item called the Monkey King Bar which is based on Sun Wukong's weapon, Ruyi Jingu Bang.

Overwatch, in the seasonal event, Overwatch Year of the Rooster, the characters Winston, Roadhog, Reinhardt and Zenyatta are given alternate outfits that makes them look like Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing and Xuanzang.

> The Pokémon franchise contains Infernape (Sun Wukong) as well as Tepig, Pignite and Emboar (Zhu Bajie).

The forest is located past the Magic Hags' Potion Shop in Southern Swamp. It consists of several areas connected in a maze-like fashion, similar to the Lost Woods in Ocarina of Time. Link must follow a certain path or he will get lost and find himself back at the entrance to the Woods.

Koume, the person in charge for the Boat Cruise in the Swamp Tourist Center, is immobilized in one of the areas within the Woods of Mystery, as the result of the Skull Kid attacking her.[2] To find her, Link must follow a Monkey, who will lead the young hero to where Koume is. If Koume is not rescued by a certain point in the game, her sister Kotake sets out to find her, and Link can encounter Kotake in another area of the forest, which is also the location of a Mushroom that can be detected by the Mask of Scents. Once Link finds Koume, he must report back to Kotake about her sister's injuries. She will give him a Bottle filled with Red Potion, which he must take back to Koume for her to consume.[3]

When Link gives Koume the Red Potion, she will instantly recover, and as a thanks to Link, she gives him a free Boat Cruise ride the next time he stops at the Swamp Tourist Center.[4]
Navigation

The location of Koume in the Woods of Mystery varies depending on the day; likewise, the path that the Monkey takes will be different. On the Second Day, Link can enter a Secret Grotto with a Treasure Chest containing a Purple Rupee, worth 50 Rupees.
