The commander of Kataib Hezbollah, an armed Iraqi group backed by Iran, was killed in an American strike on Wednesday, the US army said.

“The U.S. military conducted a unilateral strike in Iraq in response to attacks on U.S. troops, killing the commander of Kataib Hezbollah responsible for direct planning and involvement in attacks on U.S. forces in the region,” the military said in a statement.

Two security sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the commander was Abu Bakir al-Saadi, killed in a drone strike on a car in eastern Baghdad.
