China has condemned the US deployment of medium-range missiles in the Indo-Pacific region. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said in a regular press briefing on Thursday that China "expresses serious concern" and "strongly opposes the United States ... increasing forward deployments at China's doorstep to gain unilateral military advantage." The U.S. military on Monday confirmed it had deployed a medium-range missile system in northern Luzon in the Philippines on April 11. This is the first time since the Cold War that the United States has deployed land-based cruise missiles.
