The NYPD broke up an anti-Israel demonstration in Brooklyn’s Bay Bridge neighborhood, often referred to as “little Palestine” or “little Yemen” because of the large concentration of Arab immigrants.

Freelance journalist Katie Smith told Al Jazeera that several hundred people participated in the demonstration, calling not only for a ceasefire in Gaza, but also for the “liberation of Palestine.”

According to the New York Post, protesters tried to break through the police cordon and clashes broke out on the spot. Police arrested at least 12 protesters. One of the participants of the demonstration broke his nose.
