The scientific and environmental center for dolphin rescue "Delfa" reports that more than 30 dolphins died because of the oil spill after the collapse of tankers in the Kerch Strait.

Since the emergency, we have recorded 61 dead cetaceans, of which 32 died after December 15, the death of which is most likely associated with the spill of fuel oil. The rest died before the emergency - very old bodies. Almost every day we receive information about new dead dolphins, keep records and regularly transfer data to government agencies. For this time period (outside the emission season), this number of deaths is an unusually high figure. Judging by the state of the bodies – most likely, most of these cetaceans died in the first 10 days after the disaster. And now the sea continues to carry them. Most affected are the Azov, which has always been the most vulnerable cetaceans.”

On December 15, tankers with fuel oil Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft 239 crashed in the Kerch Strait. They could carry up to 10,000 tons of petroleum products. Environmentalists from Greenpeace after the crash warned that the crash could lead to the largest man-made disaster on the Black Sea.
