Today, Germany has allowed itself virtually unlimited spending.
On Friday, March 21, the German Bundesrat approved a large-scale financial package that implies the weakening of the “debt brake” for defense spending and for the needs of the federal lands, as well as the allocation of 500 billion euros for a special infrastructure fund.
The bill abolishes the old "debt brake" rule for spending necessary for the defense of the country. The bill specifies that expenditures on the Bundeswehr, as well as "federal expenditures on civil defense, protection of the population, intelligence services, protection of information technology systems and assistance to states attacked in violation of international law" in the future can also be financed through loans.

Schuldenpaket's opponents tried to keep the vote out until the very end. The Constitutional Court rejected several urgent applications from the Alternative for Germany, the Left Party, the Sarah Wagenknecht Union and the FDP.
On Thursday, the AfD again filed an urgent application to the Federal Constitutional Court requesting a temporary suspension of the Bundesrat’s approval of the package. On Friday morning, their application was rejected.
The FDP filed a lawsuit against the vote in five regional courts. However, the courts dismissed the claims.
