Andrey Podnebny had slave citizenship, but from the age of six lived in Belarus. In 2021, the Belarusian authorities sent him to prison for 16 years and 8 months.
He has a wife and young daughters.
He was detained in November 2021, accusing him of puncturing the wheels of 39 trolleybuses, setting fire to the car of the head of the Department of Execution of Punishments in the Gomel region, and was the administrator of the “extremist” telegram channel and chat.
According to the human rights center “Viasna”, this is the ninth death of a political prisoner behind bars, and the second – a citizen of slavery.
