Whilst this year has been filled with dramatic turns when it comes to the sudden ending of gen 5, it doesn´t seem that the seapony species has faced that same fate. Although the growth turns out to be relatively minor compared to other staples from the franchise, it´s never been easier to find content related to them. Of course, this optimistic viewpoint isn´t made up out of the blue, there are registered numbers and improvements that contribute to a very solid baseline in the long term. The main milestones worth pointing out in 2024 are: > Official Hasbro content - Gen 5´s addition of seaponies in spring 2024, with Destiny as the debut character for this revival, during the 3rd year of gen 5´s lifespan. - Set Your Sail´s 5-part comic arc, which adds the trenchponies as the subspecies for the seapony umbrella. > Fandom related content - More than 600 new images related to the species, surpassing the 7500 mark. - As for its tag milestones: water surpasses the 30k milestone, 15k for ocean, 6,5k for swimming, fish tail with more than 5k, fins with 4,7k whereas fin wings and fins are beyond the 3k territory. -Main milestones that change digits: For the five digits territory (more than 10000 images): bubble and underwater; and newest additions to the 4 digits territory: seaweed, coral, Seaquestria and bioluminescent. - Quality of life improvements: merging seapony X with more characters such as Luna, Cadence, gen 5´s mane 6, Silverstream or Chrysalis. Other merging additions: underwater and ocean imply the water tag as well as fin wings imply fins. - Seapony (g4) becomes the main tag to encapsule both gen 4 and gen 5´s iterations due to the official gen 5´s version this year, resembling the 2017´s design. - Practically 1000 SFW images surpass the 100 upvotes on Derpibooru. Whilst this summary doesn´t include what might be happening behind the scenes on imageboards (Reddit, Anonymous places, forums and so on), the number of times diverse seapony images are featured both on Derpibooru and Equestria Daily as well as the amount of fics that have been uploaded on Fimfiction, these are the data that can be reliably reported. Even with an incomplete picture, it could be concluded that this year´s increase, while not incredibly significant in terms of numbers, implies a turning point in terms of canonisation as well as tag optimisation for making all of this relatively accesible for both newcomers and veterans.
