It's not prohibited to specialize in more than one thing.
Sure one may not be as good focusing on multiple things instead of one, but it's up to debate.

And they played it sufficiently good that they've beat "professional" teams and qualified fair and square (Looking at wikipedia, they even played cup contenders Croatia). There were no byes for being "amateurs". If that's not professional and especially not dedicated enough then I don't know man.
