Other nice thing I learned: if you are in tty3 (ctrl+alt+f3) you can run the following command to turn off the screen if no buttons are pressed for ~5 minutes. Helpful to run "echo -ne "\033[9;5]" > /dev/tty3" in a laptop which has no hardware button to turn off the screen (also run "vlock -as").
