Operation Mockingbird

Wapo was run by Philip Leslie Graham. He married Katherin Meyer, daughter of Eugene Meyer the Washington Post's former owner. Graham was privy to operation Mockingbird - the network of journalists developed by Frank Wisner following WW II.

Phil Graham drank heavily, took a young mistress and began behaving erratically talking about how Mockingbird subverted one of the props of democracy (as Graham understood it) Graham filed for divorce but before the matter was heard Phil Graham sr suicided in 1963
Donald's wife Katherine, known as Kate, then ran the Wapo for CIA until her death in 2001 

After her death Graham's son Donny rap the business (which was failing like all print media) and he jumped at an offer from Jeff Bezos to sell the paper.
