Today, the Government has fulfilled another commitment made to Italians, particularly to the workers and businesses of this Nation.
This year, we chose to dedicate May Day to a theme particularly close to our hearts: workplace safety. On that occasion, we announced that the Government had managed to make an additional 650 million euros available, to be added to the 600 million already allocated for INAIL tenders, to strengthen measures for prevention and safety.
In recent months, we have engaged with trade unions and employer organizations to jointly define the interventions, and we have approved a very comprehensive and detailed decree-law in the Council of Ministers, which utilizes those resources, identifies additional ones, and includes numerous significant measures.
We choose to reward companies that demonstrate virtuous behavior in reducing workplace accidents, we strengthen the points-based license system, and we introduce a national electronic badge for companies operating on construction sites under contract and subcontract regimes, we increase inspections by hiring 300 inspectors and 100 Carabinieri for inspection and oversight activities, we establish scholarships for the children of workplace accident victims, and we extend INAIL insurance coverage to the commute to and from work for students engaged in training programs.
This is a measure we are very proud of, and it is the result of great teamwork. I thank the Minister of Labor Calderone, Undersecretary Mantovano, all the Ministers who have worked toward this goal, but above all, the trade unions and employer organizations, which have never failed to provide their support in recent months.
We will continue in this direction. For the good of Italy, our workers, and our businesses.
