Decarbonising the Offshore Maritime Industry: In 2023, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) announced a new set of climate goals and pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% and increase the usage of zero or near-zero GHG emission technologies, fuels and/or energy sources to represent at least 5% of the energy used by international shipping, both by 2030. Across the world, stakeholders agreed that hitting this target would require not only a rapid shift away from traditional fuels and new regulatory measures but would also insist upon increased coordination and collaboration from finance, industry, government, and academia. In this discussion, we will address the financial, economic and regulatory barriers faced by leaders in the maritime industry when approaching the decarbonisation of their operations, as well as the resources and knowledge they need from investors to leverage to overcome these obstacles. - 2023 UN Climate Change Conference, United Arab Emirates (UNFCCC COP 28)

Grids of the Future: Addressing the Barriers to Large-Scale Transmission Infrastructure: Transmission session The IEA’s recent report on electricity grids highlighted the inadequacies of the world’s network as we move towards a decarbonized, digitalized and decentralized net zero energy future. In the next 15 years, we must rebuild or repurpose an 80 million km grid system that took us 100 years to develop, at a cumulative global investment of more than $20 trillion from now to 2050. What are the bottlenecks and how do we overcome them. This discussion will feature voices from across the electricity community to identify concrete steps towards realizing the needs of a net zero power system. Energy efficiency session The International Energy Agency’s net zero roadmap suggests we need to double the rate at which improve energy efficiency from 2.2% in 2022 to above 4% this decade. This doubling requires a tripling of current efficiency-related investment, from around USD600bn per year to 1.8 trillion. This panel discussion hosted by TAQA and its super ESCO, Abu Dhabi Energy Services, will bring global perspectives together to highlight the policies, technologies, and financial models needed to get our urban environments to net zero. - 2023 UN Climate Change Conference, United Arab Emirates (UNFCCC COP 28) - 2023 UN Climate Change Conference, United Arab Emirates (UNFCCC COP 28)
