He said the Russian government, at the direction of President Vladimir Putin, conducted cyberattacks to influence the presidential election. He also told committee members the Obama administration did not reveal Russian meddling out of fears of revealing too much about U.S. intelligence gathering and of being accused of “taking sides” in the race. Mr. Johnson said he was not aware of any evidence that votes were altered or suppressed through cyber intrusions. Witnesses included 16-year-old transgender girl Harleigh Walker, who spoke about discriminatory laws and treatment against transgender youths in her home state of Alabama; Dr. Ximena Lopez, who discussed facts concerning gender-affirming care for minors; and former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, who shared her experience of competing against transgender woman Lia Thomas in a 2022 NCAA championship match, tying for fifth place with her.
