During his speech he read aloud to the crowd the cell phone number of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

Republican 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump officially accepted the party’s nomination in Cleveland, Ohio, and pledged to fix what he sees as America’s many problems including terrorism, illegal immigration and criminal injustices. In remarks to delegates, he said “I am with you, I will fight for you, and I will win for you.” He spoke for more than an hour before his entire family and vice presidential candidate Governor Mike Pence, and his family joined him on stage for the ceremonial balloon and confetti drop.

President Trump gave an update on the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic as several states face significant increases in positive cases. He spoke about efforts to increase testing, the importance of wearing a face mask, and that despite the surge in coronavirus cases, the economy would continue to grow. When discussing the increase in cases nationwide, President Trump said, “It will probably, unfortunately, get worse before it gets better.”

January 6 Hearings: Eighth Hearing on Investigation of January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol
“For 187 minutes on January 6, this man of unbridled destructive energy could not be moved,” said January 6 Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) of President Trump’s perceived unwillingness to act on that day. His remarks came in his opening statement during the eighth hearing of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. During her closing testimony, Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) spoke of the former president’s supporters, saying, “he is preying on their patriotism,” and that “on January 6th, Donald Trump turned their love of country into a weapon against our Capitol, and our Constitution.” Testifying before the committee on President Trump’s actions and response to the attack on the U.S. Capitol were former Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Pottinger and former White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews, who both tendered their resignations on January 6, 2021.
