White House Roundtable on Teen Vaping and E-Cigarettes
President Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar met with a group of vaping and e-cigarettes advocates, anti-tobacco activists, and other industry executives to talk about the increase in young people using the products. Several points were raised during the meeting including increasing age restrictions, banning flavored e-cigarette products that some felt targeted young people, and protecting small businesses. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), a critic of flavored e-cigarettes, said in the meeting that vaping flavors like cotton candy and “unicorn poop” are drawing young people in. He added, “We’ve got almost six million kids addicted to nicotine and they are getting addicted to nicotine because of the flavors.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy Holds News Conference at Southern Border
During a visit to El Paso, Texas, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) called on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign. Representative McCarthy and other House Republicans were there to evaluate border security operations and meet with border patrol personnel. He further said that if the secretary did not resign, House Republicans would launch investigations in the House once Republicans take control in January to “determine whether we can begin impeachment inquiry.”

Federal Court Hears Case on Mar-a-Lago Seized Dcouments
A three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit heard oral argument in a case concerning the legality of the appointment of a special master to review documents seized by the FBI from former President Trump’s home in Florida. The Justice Department was seeking to end this review and appointment altogether. The FBI executed a search warrant and seized the documents including classified ones, in August 2022. The Justice Department was investigating whether these White House documents were mishandled. This oral argument came as Attorney General Merrick Garland recently appointed a special counsel to oversee the Justice Department’s investigations involving the former president.
