Defense Secretary Esper and General Milley Coronavirus News Conference
Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair General Mark Milley held a briefing on the department's role in the federal government's response to the coronavirus pandemic. Secretary Esper said they have over 50,000 service members deployed across the country and would increase domestic production of medical face masks. In addition, he said while the focus was on New York, the Defense Department would pivot to other coronavirus hot spots such as Boston, Miami, and Chicago. At the start, the military leaders offered their condolences to the family and friends of the USS Theodore Roosevelt sailor who died the previous day from COVID-19.
