Reel America "Mission, Measles - The Story of a Vaccine" - 1964. This documentary details the history of the highly contagious virus that causes measles and the development of the measles vaccine in the 1950s and early 1960s. The pharmaceutical company Merck with help from the U.S. Public Health Service produced the film. Measles was declared eliminated from the United States in the year 2000, but there have been several outbreaks in recent years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention attributes the rising number of cases to unvaccinated international travelers who bring the disease to the U.S. and its spread in pockets of unvaccinated people.
