Campaign 2024: Former President Trump Speaks at Libertarian Party Convention
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump delivered remarks at the 2024 Libertarian National Convention in Washington, DC. He told the party's members that they should choose him as their nominee and be "winners" instead of being content with getting 3% of the vote in the general election. This was a reference to the Libertarian Party's most successful attempt to date to win the presidency under nominee Gary Johnson in 2016. He also made several pledges, such as filling senior posts with Libertarians if elected, pardoning Jan. 6 convicts, and commuting the life sentence of convicted drug trafficker Ross Ulbricht. The former president's speech was met with controversy, with the crowd booing throughout his remarks and some Libertarians protesting his appearance in the days preceding this event. Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also addressed the convention on the previous day, though neither Mr. Kennedy nor Mr. Trump ran on the Libertarian ticket.Show Less
