Cynical Publius @CynicalPublius - Let’s talk Creator Revenue Sharing because people need to know that problems exist in that program.
I started writing on X because I like writing. It was a hobby, but then people wanted to pay me for my hobby so I said “Sure!”
Over time, frankly, I have come to expect and somewhat depend on that stream of income.
Over the past year I have earned at least $1,000 each two-week pay period, without exception, sometimes earning over $3,000 in a two-week pay period.
On May 23, I was paid zero. During the pay period ending that day, I had 6,962,967 views and 446,453 engagements. These numbers are down from my typical engagement, but in past pay periods such numbers have resulted in a $1,581.60 payout.
I reached out to Premium Support, thinking there was a glitch in my calculations due to the recent data center failures, and was informed as follows:
"Hi,
We took a look and can confirm that you weren't paid for the last payout because your total was under 10 dollars. Don't worry, your balance will roll over and will be paid out on the next payout date (typically every other Friday) if you meet or exceed the 10 dollar threshold.”
It seemed terribly odd that +$,1000 numbers would suddenly be worth less then ten dollars, so I then replied with screen shots for the info I provided above, and was told:
"Creator revenue sharing payouts are calculated based on the engagement with your content from Premium users.
So, when your followers subscribe to X Premium and engage with your content, they support you directly.

We understand your frustration, but we cannot provide any further help here. We've provided all the info we have on this and will be closing this ticket. You can always reach out if you need help with another issue.”
Of my ~221,000 followers, ~64,000 are Premium users.
There are four possibilities here:
1. There is a system glitch that is not being recognized.
2. There has been a radical change in determining monetization.
3. I have been singled out for punishment due to the things I post.
4. Creator Revenue Sharing is so wildly unpredictable and glitchy as to not be worth it.
I write all of this not so much as a complaint, but as a story of how things can go wrong in the hope that X will provide more transparency and support. This is real money people, and many of us have devoted ourselves to Elon’s vision of providing quality, long-form, original content. This sort of lack of transparency and illogical outcomes will harm X and discourage content creators.
I don’t want that as I love X.
This sort of thing needs to be fixed.
