President Trump Statement on the Economy and Jobs Numbers
President Trump made remarks in the Rose Garden on the economy, the COVID-19 pandemic, and race relations. The president touted the strong jobs report released by the government that morning, making the case that the worst economic effects from the pandemic were behind the country. President Trump also praised the Secret Service and National Guard for their response to protests in Washington, D.C. "You have to dominate the streets," he said, calling on governors and mayors to deploy more forces in their cities in response to widespread protests following the death of George Floyd in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department. He said every American deserves equal and fair treatment from law enforcement and what happened to Mr. Floyd should never happen again. "Hopefully, George is looking down right now and saying, "This is a great thing that's happening for our country." This is a great day for him, it's a great day for everybody. This is great day for everybody."
