Camarillo Immigration Raid Recap: July 10, 2025
On July 10, 2025, a large-scale immigration enforcement operation took place at Glass House Farms, a licensed cannabis greenhouse facility at 645 Laguna Road in Camarillo, leading to significant clashes between federal agents and protesters. The raid, conducted by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents and National Guard personnel, was executed under a criminal judicial search warrant signed by a federal judge, based on evidence that Glass House Farms was employing undocumented workers in a large-scale illegal hiring scheme. This illegal hiring included unaccompanied minor children
The operation began around 11 a.m., with federal agents in tactical gear and armored vehicles blocking off Laguna and Las Posas Roads. Aerial footage showed agents forming a line across the street, detaining numerous workers, with estimates suggesting hundreds were taken into custody. Detainees were seen sitting under a semitrailer or loaded into unmarked gray vans for transport to an unknown location. Glass House Farms confirmed compliance with the federal warrant. A simultaneous raid occurred at the company’s Carpinteria facility, with similar confrontations reported.
As news of the raid had spread, hundreds of protesters, including farmworkers, family members, and community activists, gathered at the site, leading to a tense standoff. Videos from the 805 Immigrant Coalition and news outlets captured protesters confronting agents, some throwing rocks or attempting to block military vehicles. Federal agents responded with crowd control measures, deploying tear gas, smoke canisters, and less-lethal ammunition, including rubber bullets. The Ventura County Fire Department reported five people transported to hospitals and four treated on-site due to injuries from the clashes.
The situation escalated when a protester allegedly fired a handgun at federal agents, as captured by ABC7’s AIR7 footage. No injuries were reported from the shooting, but the individual is now wanted by federal authorities with a $50,000 reward.
Another protester was seen attempting to stop a military vehicle by standing in its path, while others threw objects like water bottles at federal vehicles. The use of tear gas and smoke canisters caused chaos, with witnesses describing scenes resembling a war zone, as people ran and some poured milk on their faces to counteract the gas.
The raid is part of a broader crackdown on agricultural sites across Southern California, highlighted the contentious nature of immigration enforcement. The operation at Glass House Farms, one of California’s largest cannabis farms with over 5 million square feet. The situation remains under scrutiny as authorities continue to investigate the shooting and the broader implications of the raid.
