Washington Journal: U.S. Poverty
Tavis Smiley and Cornel West, co-hosts of the "Smiley and West" radio program, talked about their recently launched "Poverty Tour," which will take them to 16 poor communities across the U.S. They also responded to telephone calls and electronic communities. Topics included President Obama's economic advisers and he recently passed debt ceiling bill. Professor West in his comments said that he would not support President Obama against a primary challenger but would support him in the presidential election. Mr. Smiley in his remarks talked about President Obama's attempts to compromise with Republican lawmakers, saying that the Democratic base "wants to see that he is a fighter, not a compromiser."
