I used to read news and check it numerous times a day, sometimes spending 5 to 6 hours online scouring news and being a news junkie. Turns out it was extremely bad for my mental health. It only caused me to binge drink every single night and have heart pain. Guess what I did? I decided to give it a two week break, reading NOTHING. Best thing I ever did for my heath. Now I don't consumer nearly as much alcohol and not every night either. Heart aches gone. Stress reduced majorly. All I did is force myself to limit my online consumption and give myself only two hours maximum for reading news. If I start to get stressed out or angry, I stop. That's it, stop for the rest of the day and walk away from it. Highly recommend not getting sucked into the matrix of data over-consumption.
