In my experience, the left questions your humanity, the right questions your love for God.

Catholic gather on Sunday to worship.
If we mention a recent public event or person during our homily, then we are doing so because that seemed to be where Jesus was taking us in the days that we were preparing for the homily.
Otherwise, our duty is to preach Christ and him crucified and risen from the dead.
Doing so will do more good for broken hearts and angry souls than mentioning any mortal.
Final note: whenever you accuse someone you do not know of cowardice, it’s a pretty good sign that you struggle with cowardice.
