Scott Leiendecker, the founder and CEO of KnowInk, developed the Poll Pad, a technology that enables the scanning of driver's licenses on an iPad, which was the first system of its kind.
This innovation was created to streamline the voting process, addressing long lines at polling stations during his tenure as election director for St. Louis.
The Poll Pad uses proprietary software to scan voter IDs, centralizing and coordinating voting records within districts.
KnowInk, the company behind the Poll Pad, is the largest electronic polling vendor in the United States, with its products used in over 1,700 districts across 35 states and Washington D.C., as well as two cities in Canada.
As of April 2023, 117,000 Poll Pads had been sold.
