TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A former satellite tracking facility for NASA in Transylvania County is for sale, according to a listing on NAI Piedmont Triad.
The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute, located on 1 Pari Drive, was first built for NASA in the 1960s as part of the space race. It is a 192-acre campus that helped capture the first images of Earth from space, the listing said.
The listing said the facility includes two NASA-built dishes, two radio telescopes, Solar and Jupiter radio arrays, and an Eight-Meter Transient Array. It also has over 30 buildings, which include an admin/welcome center, library, exhibits, dorms/staff housing, and dining facilities.
The current owner is using PARI for STEM education, scientific research, data archiving, and facility rentals, events, and private programs, according to the listing.
The listing gives the asking price for the facility as $30 million.
FOX Carolina has reached out to PARI to see if they still plan to operate on the campus if the facility is sold to new owners. We have not yet heard back.
