funny thing about Gemini AI.

It says categorically that something was not said, using as proof of that claim, that it WAS indeed actually said.

1. "He didn't say it:" It is highly unlikely that Martin Luther wrote, "Take away the Mass, you destroy the Church". The quote is a misinterpretation of his broader views and his 1522 pamphlet, De abroganda missa privata Martini Lutheri sententia (Regarding Martin Luther's opinion on the abolition of the private mass). In that work and other writings, Luther made arguments that were in direct opposition to such a statement.

2. "Because he did say it": He did write that if the papist mass were to fall, the entire papacy would also fall, because the mass was its "chief fortress". In this sense, Luther saw the abolition of the Catholic mass as a positive step toward destroying the corrupt papal church, not as a negative act of destroying the true church.

So there you have it: both ways.

That's what the media does. It dilutes truth with an unending flood of "information" with no necessary connection to reality.

Think or swim!
