The Reckoning @sethjlevy - “When GOP is in the minority, it keeps liberal judges off the bench, and prevents Chuck Schumer from packing the Supreme Court. If we dropped the requirement to only a 50-vote margin, Democrats would easily have the support to give Washington, D.C. statehood”
I don’t know how anyone can watch the Democrat behavior since January, see how influenced they are by the AOC/Bernie wing and still conclude that Democrats have any intention of protecting minority rights when they regain power.

Many are asking me about nuking the filibuster to re-open the government.
In short, it's not really on the table, but it may be forced upon us.
Background: the Senate rules require a supermajority of 60 votes to end floor debate and pass most legislation, like government funding bills.
The "nuclear option" involves a party eliminating the 60-vote threshold with only 50 votes. Senate Republicans currently have 53 seats.
 This goes both ways.
When GOP is in the minority, it keeps liberal judges off the bench, and prevents Chuck Schumer from packing the Supreme Court. If we dropped the requirement to only a 50-vote margin, Democrats would easily have the support to give Washington, D.C. statehood, for example.
Keep in mind: Some Senate Dems have told me they WANT us to bring the nuclear option, because these Dems desperately want to end the Schumer Shutdown, but don't want to face punishment from Schumer from voting YES. It would give them an out.
If we do the nuclear option, it should have some triggers. For example, Democrats hate tax cuts. Here's one idea I've had: if we go into a government shutdown, and the nuclear option goes into effect, all U.S. taxpayers should get a 3% tax cut for that fiscal year.
Like I said, nuking the filibuster is not currently on the table, but we may be forced to go there.

The Redheaded libertarian @TRHLofficial - Following a failed peace mission in 1776, John Adams & Ben Franklin stopped at an NJ inn to rest. There was only one room with one bed so the two men were forced to share.
They spent the night arguing about whether to keep the window opened.
