U.S Army WTF! moments @usawtfm - Due to constraints resulting from the government shutdown, many Soldiers currently cannot be transitioned out of the Army. To address this, Headquarters, Department of the Army per EXORD 001-26 (FRAGO) is extending Soldiers who are not in receipt of separation instructions or have not departed their installations issued prior to the current lapse of federal funding.
Soldiers will be extended for an initial period of 45 days, with potential adjustments depending on the length of the government shutdown.

U.S. Naval Institute @NavalInstitute - #OTD in 1910, Walter McIlhenny was born. Heir to his family's hot sauce company, "Tabasco Mac" served as a Marine officer during WWII, receiving the Navy Cross and the Silver Star. At night during the Battle of Guadalcanal, he suddenly came upon a startled Japanese officer who struck McIlhenny in the head with his sheathed katana. Before losing consciousness from the heavy blow, McIlhenny managed to shoot the Japanese officer. McIlhenny's helmet and the katana that dented it are now on exhibit at the National World War II Museum.
