AAGHarmeetDhillon @AAGDhillon - Many of you have probably seen the news in the last few months of two illegal aliens causing horrific tragedies on American roadways while behind the wheel of large commercial trucks.
These individuals obtained commercial driver’s licenses in California due to the State’s absurd coddling of illegal aliens, putting all drivers and their occupants on the roads at risk. There are thousands of these instances.
This should never have happened, as I’ve discussed with Secretary Duffy, who is taking steps to end these risks, keeping everyone on our roads safer! We must ensure that American drivers can read and communicate in English, for public safety.
Those responsible for these tragedies must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law; and the systems in place that allowed these illegal aliens to enter our country and get behind the wheel of these dangerous machines must be completely overhauled.
Unfortunately, in the fog of outrage, some are using these tragedies as an opportunity to attack law-abiding Sikhs and Indian-origin drivers, simply because of who they are.
Many of these law-abiding Sikhs and Indian-origin Americans are hard-working and patriotic. Most were born here or immigrated here lawfully.
They are our neighbors, our friends, and provide a legal and vital service. They believe in the American dream, and the rule of law upon which that dream was built.
These Americans are not responsible for the actions of the two reckless men behind the wheels of those trucks, and they must not shoulder the blame for the tragedies those men caused.
It is illegal under federal law to discriminate against individuals or attack or violently threaten them because of their race, color, religion, or national origin. The @CivilRights will aggressively prosecute or pursue justice against those engaged in such discrimination.
Targeting other Americans because of their race or religion is antithetical to our values as a nation.
I urge all of you, my fellow Americans, to act with reason. Those responsible for these tragedies must pay for their misdeeds. So, too, should the State of California, for enacting reckless policies.
But innocent and the law-abiding citizens and workers of all backgrounds, are entitled to the protection of federal law, and we will protect them @TheJusticeDept. Thank you!

Adam Schiff @SenAdamSchiff - Let’s be clear:
Donald Trump has the power to ensure 40 million people don’t go hungry during the shutdown.
But he wishes to inflict the maximum pain on those who can least afford it.
He won’t fund food.
But he’s happy to build a golden ballroom.

AFL-CIO @AFLCIO - Because of the government shutdown, SNAP food assistance is about to run out for 42 MILLION people, including 1.2 million veterans. The Trump administration should be doing everything they can to make sure America’s heroes and everyone who needs food assistance won’t go hungry.
