I can affirm that what she says is correct.
Before I met my husband, I went through some wild relationships. Always chose the wrong kind of man, not because all men are crappy, but because I was vibrating on a very low frequency and attracted them.
I was a traumatized empath, and that’s what some of these men prey on. I lacked healthy boundaries. I lacked self respect. I lacked love enough for myself to know I deserved better.
I settled into years with a few of these guys, and it was absolute misery. I always blamed them for everything. “If they would act right, I would be happy. If they wouldn’t slap me, I wouldn’t be sad. If everyone else around me would just change, I wouldn’t be so depressed.”
WRONG again. It wasn’t them, it was me. I was the problem. I played the biggest part in my own suffering.
Checked myself into cognitive therapy and learned to self reflect. I learned that it wasn’t them, it was me. Accountability to self will take you far in life. I chose the chaos. I welcomed it in.
When I realized that, I was out the door. Stayed alone for a long time, working on me. Getting my heart prepared to love another instead of waiting on someone to love me back to life again. I was careful in my choosing. I had boundaries. I had love for me, and my whole world changed.
Years later, I was working inventory control at Walmart, and in walked the love of my life. The whole world stopped spinning. Nothing existed in that moment but him.
We married a few years later, and were married for 10 beautiful years, until c a n c e r took him. Sure, we had arguments, but we had respect and love for one another. Both of us grown into a heart that was ready to receive and give love.
7 years ago, he left this world, and I’ve accepted that. I’m grateful for the time we had. He was a gem. Dancing in the living room to old country songs, always laughing. It was great.
But that never would have arrived if I didn’t get myself straight.
Life has a way of handing you pretty things, but you gotta be able to receive them. It’s not something you go out and search for, it is something that finds you when you’re ready..
When you’re busy growing and living and loving your life to fullest, it kind of just shows up and says, “Here I am.”
Don’t generalize the whole population based on a few. Correct yourself. Grow. Learn. There are pretty things on the other side of that.
