SEOforDeplorables @DeplorableSEO - I'm feeling a stirring to say this, and for some reason yours is the only account left where I feel I can say it without being attacked.
The way I see it there are three "sides" to this schism on the Right.
1) The pro-Israel, pro-Zionist folks
2) The anti-Israel, anti-Zionist folks
3) Free speech absolutists
My heart is at #1, but my head is at #3. I'm genuinely perplexed at why people in #1 are calling for us to "cancel" Tucker for merely having an interview with Fuentes.
Anyone who actually listened would have heard Tucker condemning the notion that "all Jews are evil". Yes, his blanket condemnation of "Zionists" was incredibly stupid, but in context of all his other statements and his own history as a dupe for the "War on Terror", it's clear to me he was talking about people who were advocating for war on behalf of Israel, not their support for Israel.
What bothers me most is most people I hear attacking Tucker are doing it ad hominem. I see them sharing quotes and videos of him out of context. They call him "Nazi" and "anti-Semite" without showing evidence for it.
That's what Media Matters does. And it scares the hell out of me when my own "side" does it, even when I agree with them.
My feed last night was filled with Jewish voices who were legitimately scared that they were going to rounded up and killed. They sounded EXACTLY trans people on the Left who were also 100% convinced and terrified that "platforming" Charlie Kirk would lead to them being rounded up and killed. If Tucker was killed, I feel that many of these accounts would be posting TikTok videos celebrating it. That also terrifies me.
What's bizarre is that when Mamdani or Schumer or AOC say stupid things, we counter with some mockery, but ALSO with facts and reason to point out what they're getting wrong. But for some reason, with Tucker it's pure emotion. I've been waiting for just ONE of the accounts attacking Tucker to write extended commentary of what he discussed in his interview in its full context, but all I hear is ad hominem and individual words being twisted out of context.
I had at least one prominent account in #1 block me for even suggesting that we need to talk to each other. What did that do? It pushed me closer to #2. And I say this as someone who has vociferously defended #1 for decades—much, much more effectively than this account ever did.
I did my own homework. I listened to the interview and after hearing his own words, I still found Fuentes to be pretty distasteful.
Being scolded and shouted down and blocked didn't convince me, it only repelled me.
Here's what did convince me:
