It is much more complex.

FBI @FBI - CASE UPDATE from FBIAlbuquerque: Two men have been sentenced to prison for orchestrating a ransom scheme in which they held undocumented immigrants captive and extorted their families under threats of violence and cartel retaliation.
The FBI received a kidnapping complaint on March 1, 2025. Agents traced the ransom calls to a home in southwest Albuquerque where they discovered 11 undocumented immigrants from Guatemala, including one unaccompanied minor, as well as more than 20 cell phones and a ledger documenting smuggling activity. The victims reported that Isaias David Jose and Tomas Mateo Gaspar locked them in rooms, confiscated their shoes and phones, and threatened them with violence.

FBI @FBI - CASE UPDATE from FBIMiamiFL: Florida Laboratory Owner Pleads Guilty to 52M Medicare Fraud Scheme Involving Genetic Tests
Sean Alterman, 38, owned and operated two laboratories that billed approximately 52 million to Medicare for false and fraudulent claims. Alterman made roughly 5.5 million from the scheme, much of which he received through shell companies. As part of his plea agreement, Alterman agreed to forfeit his Lake Worth, Florida estate and a 2022 Rolls Royce Ghost purchased with money traceable to the scheme.
