The delegations from the US, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan are currently meeting at Bürgenstock. The doors closed and the meeting started at 3:09pm local, per a VP spokesperson.
The Vice President and the Prime Ministers from Pakistan and Qatar briefly addressed reporters without the Iranian delegation present.
Before the start of their remarks, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi briefly walked into the room and embraced Prime Minister Sharif. He was there just a short time before walking out again and did not during that time interact with Vance, who was on the other side of the room.
“We've already made great progress over just the last few hours, and I expect that we'll make additional progress in the hours to come,” Vance told reporters.
Asked whether he had any message for Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding Israel’s military operations in Lebanon, the Vice President said they had seen “great progress” in the last couple of days and said, “these things are always a little bit messy.”
“There, of course, are going to be sometimes disagreements about precisely how to get there, but I actually feel great about where we are in Lebanon. There's still some additional wood to chop, but we're going to keep on working,” Vance said.
The Vice President was asked a question about genocide in Lebanon and he said the US has “done more to stop the conflict in Lebanon than any government anywhere in the world.”
“I think that the President of the United States and the United States of America have done more to stop the conflict in Lebanon than any government anywhere in the world over the last few months, and we're gonna keep on working towards it. As I think a lot of you appreciate, peace is never easy,” Vance said.
Reporters were ushered out of the room before the Iranian delegation entered. Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf were later seen by reporters walking towards the meeting room.
In the meeting room, the delegations from Qatar and Pakistan were placed in between the leaders from the US and Iran. The flags from each of the four countries are displayed prominently throughout the resort and their meeting room. “Lake Lucerne Summit” is printed dozens of times on the backdrops in the room, and each delegation had waters and coffees placed in front of them.
