Jimmy Palmiotti @jpalmiotti - In 1982, I was working for an ad agency in Manhattan and commuting in from Brooklyn every day. Depending on the weather, I'd switch up my route to the office. One rainy morning, I cut through Lord & Taylor to stay dry and that's when I unexpectedly walked right past Brian De Palma and Nancy Allen, who were looking at some jewelry.
I was 21, starstruck, and absolutely freaked out it was really them. Not wanting to miss an opportunity, I went up to them, introduced myself, thanked them for all their great work, told them I was a big fan, apologized for bothering them, and started to walk away. Brian stopped me, asked what I did for a living, and the three of us ended up chatting for a minute or two before saying goodbye.
I'd never approach people like that now, but back then I was young, excited, and didn't know any better. Looking back, they were incredibly generous with their time. I always remember how nice they were and try to be the same when I am at conventions and people walk up to me.
Today is Nancy's birthday, and I just wanted to give a shout out for being so damn cool to me all those years ago. I'm still a big fan of both of them and still grateful for that moment.
